Chef, then travel agent, then, at an age when most people have stopped changing their mind, a copper artist. Nine years in, Isaac works from a gallery and sculpture garden in Matua that runs down to the estuary. Together, Isaac and Lara have made it a place for art, gardening and the occasional appearance of their cat, Honey.

Isaac’s artworks combine artistry and alchemy, using acids, salts and sunlight to reveal the hidden beauty of copper. His process brings out light, shadow, texture and vibrant patinas, with each piece reflecting the ever-changing colours and character of the metal. Working across sculpture and wall art, he creates distinctive gallery pieces inspired by the natural world.

Lara designs, plants and tends the sculpture garden, as well as looking after the photography, website, social media and administration behind Isaac’s practice.

When creating commissioned pieces, Isaac works closely with clients to bring their ideas to life. You can see an example of a custom order in the video at the bottom of the page.

Isaac has exhibited at Tauranga’s Incubator Gallery, Matter Gallery and The Mandarin Tree Gallery. His work has featured in magazines and on television. In 2024, four large-scale works were commissioned for the SkyCity Horizon Hotel in Auckland, where they are now permanently installed. A further artwork was presented at Coronet Ridge Resort, Queenstown, in 2026.

His wall art is exhibited in galleries throughout New Zealand. He has been a guest artist at the Bay of Plenty Garden & Art Festival in 2018, 2020, 2022 and 2024. In 2025, his work featured at BOP Open Studios and NZ Sculpture OnShore in Auckland, where his collection sold out.

Closer to home, his sculptures can be found in public gardens at Tauranga’s Historic Village, Tauranga Racecourse and Te Puna Quarry Park.
